Steve Bolton
Captain, Washington County Sheriff Office
Each Monday morning begins with quiet time with my wife—meditation, prayer, and a reading from Proverbs—before I step into mentoring the chaplains I’ve been training. By 9:15, we are loading the car with coolers of pop, snacks, my laptop, and that day’s lesson and discussion guide, then making a quick stop at Walmart for bananas and any other small items the inmates at the jail might enjoy.

Are they all happy to see us? SOMETIMES. Are they curious? YES. We pray for them and hope there might be a clear connection and a spark of hope, and other times we are simply leaving a small imprint on a hurting heart.

A broken spirit and a broken heart are always messy, but that is exactly where my calling lives. I carry a gift of love for those who are stuck in the messy, and I and my team keep showing up for them, week after week.
The prison ministry is funded 100% by donations which are used to provide drinks, snacks and bibles.
